New Britain, Conn. – Boys and Girls Club of New Britain (Club) members participate in swimming lessons, summer programs, after school activities, and summer camp. Now, these activities will be a little easier to access, thanks to a $93,138 capital grant awarded by American Savings Foundation.
The Club has seen significant growth over the years, with increased youth participation and expansion of their programs and activities. However, the Club’s current vans are aging, posing challenges in meeting the transportation needs that help get youth to and from these programs. The grant from American Savings Foundation will help the Club purchase two new vans, ensuring the continuity and accessibility of programs for over 900 young Club members served annually.
The vans will make it easier for the Club to provide transportation to attend various sports events, field trips, educational programs, and community and cultural activities, including volunteer opportunities like the Adopt a Grandparent program. Additionally, the vans are critical in supporting Club members' access to Camp Schade, the newly renovated summer camp in Burlington, where they can engage in outdoor adventures, team-building activities, and explore nature.
“This grant is more than an investment in new vehicles; it's an investment in the future of the youth in our community,” said Maria Falvo, president and CEO of American Savings Foundation. “We know how important it is for youth to have access to positive after school programs like the Boys & Girls Club, which in turn open the door to a wide range of experiences that are so important to youth development and growth.”
