Human Resources Agency - Financial Literacy Program

A comprehensive financial literacy program for high school students.

At the 2016 annual scholarship reception, the following video highlighting the Human Resources Agency of New Britain’s financial literacy program, a high-school youth program which receives funding from the American Savings Foundation was debuted. Students in the program study to become certified tax preparers and volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program in New Britain.

Teenagers Prepare Tax Returns in New Britain

In this video, HRA New Britain trains teenagers at New Britain High School in Connecticut to qualify as certified tax preparers as part of a financial literacy program. These young adults then volunteer in their community at tax time, preparing tax returns for anyone in the community needing help. Along the way, they gain some incredible real-world experience and some unexpected benefits.
